Frequently Asked Questions

How to reset your modems internet connection.
Resetting the internet connection in your home or office is simple but should be done in a specific order. Some devices are designed to remember IP addresses and other data and therefore should be turned off and on in an order that allows one device to get its new data and then pass it on to the other devices in the network.

  1. Turn off or unplug your internet provider's modem first and leave it unplugged. (Disconnect the battery if your modem has one also)
  2. If you have a separate router, unplug this device now.
  3. Now after several minutes, the longer the better, plug the power back into the modem, remember to turn the switch back on too if it has one. Next, plug the battery in also if you disconnect in step one.
  4. After several minutes and most of the lights are solid on the modem and not blinking, plug the router back in if you have one separate from your modem.
If your internet provider is actually up and running as normal you should be up and running and be back in business.

UNplugging all the power sources to the modem is very important when resetting the connection to your internet provider.  Just to make sure that the modem is actually off, be sure that the power plug and battery are disconnected from the modem itself. Some power bricks store energy and the modem may not reset especially if the modem is connected to a battery of some sort like a UPS (uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is better known as a battery backup).  These are designed just for the case of a Sudden loss or flickering of power which is the main cause of damage to computers and other electronic devices.
